I am an interested amateur in this field, no more, so this may be wide of the mark, but one of things that worries me a little about defining an art form, in this case Southern music, in this way, is what it must exclude by definition. Is the implication of Dr Toth's definition that Southern music can't be played by non-Southerners? Reminds me a bit of Wynton Marsalis implying (very strongly) that jazz is an African-American art form and jazz played by others is somehow non-authentic as a result. Jeffrey Grey H&SS, ADFA
